The Blockchain Hackathon organised by Chainsmith in Dublin claims to be the largest blockchain Hackathon of 2016, in the world. This might very well be true after the attendance of 130 participants.
The hackathon is a 48-hour event where:
- Participants pitch a blockchain idea (Day 1)
- Teams are formed around some of the ideas (Day 2)
- The team has two days to develop the idea and make it concrete by implementing the solution (Day 2 and Day 3)
- The team pitches the business rationale behind the idea and offer a demo of their newly created product (Day 3)

Today, event organisers and ticket issuer (1) have limited control over their tickets once it issued and (2) people buying tickets on the secondary market have limited guarantee that the ticket they bought will actually give them access to the venue. Besides a clear business value for all stakeholders, the solutions improved the transparency of the ticket transfer and as such allow a safe resale of tickets amongst buyers and sellers that don’t know each other thanks to self-enforceable smart-contracts. By the last day, we launched a marketplace were other participants could buy and resale concert tickets.
Our team won the first price by making a difference with regards to the added-value to all stakeholders, the business case and the working demo we could present by Day 3.
The jury was composed of one representative of the following companies: Chainsmists, Bank of Ireland, Deloitte and Fidelity.
